Queen Butterfly at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Cameron and I visited the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center last Sunday and I spent a little time taking pictures of the many Queen butterflies (Danaus gilippus) that we found there. This was taken with my 28-300mm lens zoomed in all the way and 56mm of extension tubes, a combination that I really like because it gives me great magnification while allowing me to stay 3 or 4 feet away from the subject.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/13
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Exposure bias: -3/6EV
  • Focal length: 300mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
