Valtteri Bottas with his Halo

On the Friday of Grand Prix weekend, the teams often use the first practice sessions to test out various pieces of new equipment. One such prototype this year is the cockpit halo intended to offer the driver some protection from flying debris following an accident ahead. Here’s Valtteri Bottas of Williams Martini Racing sporting the halo on his car. I can’t help feeling that this must severely impede the driver’s vision but it seems to be the leading design under consideration so I expect the drivers must be OK with it.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/9.5
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
