The Spirit of Sacrifice

Drew and I spent the afternoon in San Antonio last Saturday. He had never been inside the Alamo so braved the crowds and wandered around that area for a while. This monument, officially know as the Alamo Cenotaph although originally titled “The Spirit of Sacrifice”, is right outside the front of the historic chapel. It was commissioned during the Texas Centennial in 1936 and completed in 1940. The base of the tower is inscribed with the names of 187 people known to have been on the Texas side during the battle in 1836.

For the technically inclined...
