Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

In Texas, one sure sign that summer is on the way is your first sighting of a scissor-tailed flycatcher (Tyrannus forficatus). These spectacular migrants arrive in April from their wintering grounds in the tropics and spend the hot summer in Texas and Oklahoma performing aerial acrobatics as they catch insects on-the-wing.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 300mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/500s
