Hamilton Pool in monochrome

Most, if not all of the previous Hamilton Pool pictures I’ve published have been in colour so, just for a change, here’s a monochrome shot from the interior of the grotto. Hamilton Pool is a famous and spectacular swimming hole just outside Austin. In the old days, getting in wasn’t difficult but, as its popularity and fame has grown, you now need a reservation to visit in the summer months.

I processed this shot using AuroraHDR for the basic exposure merge then Lightroom for the black and white conversion and toning.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/19
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Exposure bias: +1EV
  • Focal length: 15mm
  • ISO: 64
  • Shutter speed: 1/8s
