Lone Tree, Cade’s Cove

Last Friday was a thoroughly rainy day in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Our intrepid NxNW photographers weren’t to be put off by mere weather, however, so we used the opportunity of smaller crowds to visit the popular Cade’s Cove area of the park. This picturesque bowl in the hills contains many historic buildings and has fantastic views of the surrounding forested hills.

Visitors to the cove travel an 11 mile, one-way loop road which is intersected by two famous lanes, Sparks Lane (which was closed for maintenance on our visit) and Hyatt Lane from which this image was taken.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 92mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/125s
