A corvette burns some serious rubber during the Club Loose Texas “Opening Moves” event at Alamo City Motorplex in San Antonio on March 17th, 2019.
This shot is also the first lesson in photography mistakes I made on Sunday. It was taken towards the end of the day when I was shooting some of the Class A (faster, more experienced drivers) cars coming through one of the corners. I turned to look back, more into the sun, and noticed that the light on the rubber smoke was fantastic so I swung round to shoot the cars from behind. After squeezing off several hundred frames, I realized that I had completely forgotten to change shutter speeds. Great smoke, totally static wheel. It looks as if someone lit a fire under a parked car.
Takeaway: Keep the shutter speed at 1/350 or slower to make sure you get some wheel blur!
