New Lanark (5)

Here’s the last of the current series of monochrome images taken in New Lanark during our recent trip back to Scotland. This, again, shows the renovated homes on Double Row.

As part of the village restoration plan, the exteriors of many of the original worker’s accommodation buildings were made safe and the stonework repointed before the buildings were split into vertical slices and sold off as empty shells. Buyers could then build their own interiors with rules enforced to ensure that the exterior appearance was maintained. As a result, there are many fantastic and innovative tall, thin homes on these streets each 4 stories tall and 20-25 feet wide.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: E-M5MarkII
  • Focal length: 42mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/640s
