We reached Antarctica proper this morning and were woken up half an hour early when the expedition crew noticed a huge number of whales feeding just ahead of the ship. This was my view after racing to the deck. Cornwallis Island lies about 5 miles north east of Elephant Island in the South Shetland chain and was lit beautifully at 7:30am.
