Chinstrap Penguins




We visited Elephant Island yesterday for a zodiac cruise around the bay at Point Wild, the location of the final rescue of Shackleton’s team back in August 1916. The rugged and remote area where the men camped is home to a large colony of Chinstrap Penguins and a bronze bust of Captain Luis Pardo Villalón, captain of the Chilean navy cutter Yelcho which finally came to the men’s aid.
