Yesterday was a mammoth day for visiting National Monuments near Flagstaff as we hit three different locations over a twelve hour period. I had visited Wupatki National Monument 37 years ago during a post-graduation trip to Arizona but was surprised when it didn’t look the way I had remembered. We visited the main pueblo, seen here, which is right behind the visitor center but, after actually reading more information on the site, I realized that I had visited Wukoki Pueblo instead on my previous visit.
This 100+ room pueblo was a thriving community back in the 12th and 13th centuries and featured large community spaces as well as an outdoor sports field.
