Pews, Trinity Church, Boston

I had a rather wonderful day today shooting around Boston with Brian Matiash and Bob Lussier. We spent an hour or so inside Trinity Church on Copley Square. The main sanctuary is a wonderful space with a wonderful, ornate ceiling (you’ll find a photo of it over on Flickr and I’ll likely post more here later). The other guys were shooting fabulous compositions with fisheye lenses so I concentrated on totally different shots such as this detail of the pews.

This is really, really special. I’ve seen so many church interior shots lately (many of them are really good) but they are always of the altar. This is so refreshing and personal, and the composition is just perfect.

Now I wonder would the image would be like if there was one lonely person in a back row praying by themselves?

Beautiful image. I love the detail.

Thanks, folks!

Theresa, I agree that a single person in the image would have been great. Unfortunately, this shot included an 80 second exposure so getting someone sharp back there would have been quite a challenge!
