1951 Singer

We move back in time another decade for today’s picture which shows another British car model from a company that is no longer to be found.

Singer Motors produced its first car in 1905 in a factory in Coventry and continued producing vehicles for the next 65 years. The company ran into financial difficulties in the 1950s and was sold and then, later, acquired by Chrysler. The last Singer model came off the production line in 1970.

While I remember plenty of Austin cars as a child, I have no recollection of Singers but that may be due to the fact that their later models were rebadged and slightly re-engineered variants of other popular cars such as the Hillman Imp and, as a 4 or 5 year old, I wasn’t quite at the stage of differentiatng between them!
