This fun shot shows another part of our night-photography fun on Cannon Beach last Saturday. The orange “light blossom” in the picture is formed by someone (in this case, the intrepid Justin Balog) swinging an egg beater on a cable around his head with a block of burning steel wool held within the beater’s wire cage. As it spins, the sparks fly off and generate these amazing trails in a long exposure photograph.
I would love to try this again but it would be challenging to find somewhere safe to do it in Texas, I suspect. given how dry things are just now. I suspect this would have to be a winter activity in dry states.
Thanks to Scott Wood for bringing the gear needed to try this and also to fellow travellers Jim Nix and Jacob Lucas who no doubt got even better shots of the fun than this one.
Wow. That sounds like a scientific experiment well worth doing! Superb light trails – couldn’t have turned out better. Well done!
