As my kids get older, I now find myself in the pleasant position that various of their friends’ parents are asking me to shoot senior portraits. While I don’t really consider myself an experienced portrait photographer (at least, not formal, posed portraits), I’m keen to do more of this kind of photography so it has been great fun getting to experiment with willing models and parents to act as assistants!
I spent yesterday morning with MJ and Ruth, his mum (yes, I can say that because she’s a fellow Brit) hanging around the Texas State Capitol and the Hope Outdoor Gallery (graffiti park). MJ is a very accomplished euphonium player and wanted some shots with his instrument. He also wanted something different and this is what we came up with. I guess you could argue that it isn’t really a portrait given that most of his face is hidden but I still very much like the result.
