Ducks in a Row

I’ve failed miserably in my attempts to identify these ducklings, seen at Schwabacher Landing in Grand Tetons National Park. Despite having a clear picture of their mother (prediminantly black, yellow eyes, red/brown bill, white flashes on the wings), I’ve not found any bird on various Wyoming or North American bird identification site that matches. If anyone can help me out, I’ll update this post!

Edit: John Lorenzo kindly identified these as Common Goldeneye. Thanks!

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6.7
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 600mm
  • ISO: 1600
  • Shutter speed: 1/500s

    John,

Many thanks! Now that I look the Common Goldeneye up, I see why I may have been confused before. The ID pictures all show the female with a prominent white band on her neck but my images don’t show this. That said, in all my pictures, the mother has her head low in the water so it’s likely that I just wasn’t seeing the white.
