We split our journey home from Fiji, spending a day in Nadi (pronounced “Nandi”) on the main island of Vita Levu before making the final leg back to the US. This was mostly to insulate us from the possibility of a delayed internal flight causing us to miss our transpacific connection but, looking back on it, it was a great idea because it gave us a chance to visit a few fabulous places such as the Garden of the Sleeping Giant where I took this picture.
The garden is named for the mountain that it nestles under – from a distance its profile looks very much like a sleeping giant – and is home to the most amazing collection of orchids I’ve ever seen. Boardwalks thoughout the tropical garden pass a wonderful collection of trees and flowers and, on your return to the entrance, you are treated to a cold drink in the pavilion there. Given how hot and sticky the weather was when we visited, the drink was greatly appreciated.
