Jayhawk Sousas

I had a bit of a change last weekend as I spent Saturday taking pictures of crimson and blue rather than burnt orange. I was on a dorm furniture delivery trip up to the University of Kansas and, unexpectedly, got the opportunity to stand in as a photographer for the KU Marching Jayhawk band after one of their regulars took ill.

KU’s stadium sits at the bottom of a hill and, prior to each game, the band gathers at the top of the hill and processes down to play a pregame show outside the main gates. Here are some of the tuba players during the procession.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/7.1
  • Camera: E-M1MarkII
  • Focal length: 82mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/800s
