Waiting for the Parade

Children in Dripping Springs, Texas, wait for the arrival of the Founder’s Day Parade and the shower of candy that attends it on Friday, March 26th, 2019.

This image jumped out at me for a couple of reasons as I was scanning through the candidates for today’s post. Firstly, Founders Weekend celebrations which were scheduled for the end of this month have been cancelled this year due to coronavirus. This is completely understandable and definitely the right thing to do but it’s still disappointing since the weekend really is the highlight of the annual Dripping Springs community calendar.

The second reason I chose it was because it features the logo our our local (Texas-wide) supermarket chain HEB. There are few places, I expect, where people get passionate about grocery store chains but I would put money on you being unable to find anyone in Texas who doesn’t absolutely love HEB. Not only do they run great supermarkets, they are also enormously active in local philanthropy supporting the arts and education across the state and, in times of crisis such as these, they pull out all the stops to help affected communities get through. Thank you HEB!

For the technically inclined...
