Sunrise under Mesa Arch

I’ll finish my latest run of landscape pictures with another one from Mesa Arch in Utah’s Canyonlands National Park. Although the view is spectacular, photographing sunrise here is a zoo. The arch is deceptively small (perhaps 25 feet across) and you can be sure there was no social distancing involved between the couple of dozen photographers who were there at 5am waiting for this picture. Thankfully, back in 2013 when I took this on our NxNW trip to Moab, social distancing wasn’t a thing.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/22
  • Camera: NIKON D700
  • Focal length: 21mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/30s
