Balanced Rock I

I’m just back from a fantastic long weekend trip to Big Bend National Park in far west Texas so I’m going to break from the Atlanta pictures for a while.

It took me 27 years to finally make it out to Big Bend and, having seen it, I’m disappointed that I missed so many earlier opportunities to go – the place is vast and utterly gorgeous. While this wasn’t strictly a photography trip, Nikki and I were there at the same time as photo buddy Jason Flenniken and his family so us guys headed out early for sunrise on Friday and Saturday while everyone else slept or otherwise amused themselves. On Saturday, after a dud sunrise on Friday, Jason suggested we try Balanced Rock and it turned out to be an amazing location. The sunrise wasn’t spectacular but we had a few clouds to add interest to the sky and the rock formations certainly provided some great foregrounds.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: E-M1MarkII
  • Focal length: 7mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/30s
