I’m just back from our team’s second robotics event for this season. We traveled to Irving near Dallas for the FIRST In Texas Irving District competition and had a great weekend, getting through to the quarter finals with a robot that was performing very much better than it had at our previous competition three weeks ago.
This picture shows all the members of the three teams forming the winning alliance in the robot competition. FIRST Robotics Competition is structured such that teams are always paired with two others to play in alliances, 3 in the red alliance against 3 others in the blue alliance. Robots within an alliance cooperate to score points and thwart their opponents.
The winning alliance at Irving comprised captain Team 3310 Blackhawk Robotics, Team 148 Robowranglers and Team 4610 BearTecs.
While most of the action during the event is on the field, the biggest award is won for team activities carried out throughout the year. The Chairman’s Award recognizes the team that has had the greatest impact on their local community and this year it was won by Team 5242 Robocats from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas.
