Goodbye Big Bertha

Yesterday was an important day for the University of Texas Longhorn Band and Longhorn Alumni Band since it saw the final field appearance of their 100 year old bass drum Big Bertha. Bertha is being retired to the Texas Hall of Fame and being replaced by an even larger, custom built drum named Big Bertha II. Here’s Bertha (1) on the field at the start of yesterday’s UT Longhorns/Iowa State Cyclones game at Texas Memorial Stadium.

You can find all my pictures from the game at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/UT-Longhorn-Band/2022/Iowa-State-October-15th/.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6.7
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 244mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/500s
