Following Saturday’s UT/OU game at the Cotton Bowl, I hung around to allow me to fly a drone downtown at sunset and capture some skyline images. Here’s one of my favourites taken shortly after the sun went down when the glow on the western horizon was being reflected off the glass facades of the city centre skyscrapers.
This was my first flight in controlled airspace, being within 5 miles of both Dallas Love and Dallas-Ft Worth International Airports and I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to get permission via the FAA’s automated LAANC system. Using an app on my phone, I requested permission to fly in a particular location, at a particular time, and with a particular maximum altitude and authorization was sent automatically in a matter of minutes.
If you’re interested in photos from earlier in the day, you can find all my images of the UT and OU marching bands before and during the football game at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/UT-Longhorn-Band/2023/Oklahoma-October-7th/.
