Contented Wiener

An apparently-contented juvenile Southern Elephant Seal (Mirounga leonina) lying on the beach at Peggotty Camp, King Haakon Bay, South Georgia on December 26th, 2024. Young elephant seals are affectionately known as “wieners” due to their rather sausage-like appearance.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 320mm
  • ISO: 800
  • Shutter speed: 1/1000s
