Longhorn Band: Assistant Director Tony Marinello

Tony Marinello is Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Texas and was the person lucky enough to be conducting during the time when the dusk sky colour was at its best last Saturday night.

As you can probably guess, this picture used a flash to light Tony while the basic exposure was set for the background. I’m fairly sure this was shot in manual (the flash was definitely in manual) but I can’t remember if I had the flash on or off the camera. Most of the time, I like to get the flash off the hotshoe but sometimes, when my arms get tired, when I’m using a heavy lens or when I can’t find a helper to hold the flash, I’ll leave it on the camera if it’s acting as a fill light.

Seems well lit regardless of the flash’s location! Really nice mix of natural and strobe Dave and the composition is very good too! I like!
