I love looking for incongruous little details when shooting and this subject definitely falls into that category. While looking around a dusty office on the top floor of Stone Mill in Lawrence, I noticed two reasonably modern keys nailed to a bracket in the middle of the floor. I have absolutely no idea what they were doing there. Perhaps there used to be a desk over this spot and this was a “key of last resort” arrangement? Anyone have any suggestions?
This photo also serves to illustrate how interesting it is to shoot familiar places with new people. I was in Stone Mill with Bob Lussier who has shot the building many, many times in the past yet he had never noticed these keys. I find exactly the same thing happens whenever I take an out-of-town friend to the Texas State Capitol. Regardless of the fact that I’ve been photographing inside the building for 15 years, the new set of eyes always find something that I’ve never seen before. Shooting with others really can open your eyes to new possibilities in familiar surroundings.
Take a look over on Bob’s blog today since he has posted another detail shot from the same room.
Great find and a wonderful treatment on this image! These little things draw many questions for the viewer, which I like! Good stuff!

Weird. Great shot. I can’t think of any good reasons why you would nail a key to the floor.
