If you hang around any building with Bob Lussier, it becomes pretty apparent, pretty quickly that he has a thing for staircases. Others have noticed this before, of course (Brian Matiash christened him “The Stair Whisperer” a few years ago and named a preset in OnOne’s PhotoEffect after him) but until you spend a couple of hours locked in a fire escape stairwell with him, you don’t really begin to understand the depths of his obsession.
This may sound negative (and, of course, I’m just poking fun at a good friend) but Bob’s over-developed stairwell interest pays back since many of the pictures he has shot in dusty fire escapes around the Lawrence mills are fabulous – follow the link above and take a look through his blog. The pictures are even more impressive when you consider that all are taken in confined spaces with rather limited camera placement options.
I took many images in this Everett Mill stair well and I’ll be posting a couple more later this week but it’s fair to say that none of them are good enough to challenge the Stair Whisperer.
Thank you, Dave. You are way too kind. And thank you for getting my best side.
I had such a great time shooting with you that day — the whole weekend, actually. The next time can’t come soon enough.

Oh wow, that’s Bob’s best side, huh? Great to see the man in action! Good stuff Dave!
Looks like he might even know what he’s doing. Bob’s the man!
