Josh in a Mask

One of my son’s friends (and brother of the young lady whose quinceñeara we were attending) sporting a mask which was one of the many props on offer at the party’s photo booth.

From a technical perspective, this shot was tricky to process because it was lit exclusively by very bright, very magenta disco lighting. Coming up with a black and white downmix that didn’t have horrid banding in it wasn’t easy but I think this result works fine as long as you don’t look at it too closely.

This is another shot taken with my 35mm f/2.0 lens which I’m making a point of using more than I used to based on the #WE35 project running over on The Photo Frontier.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: NIKON D700
  • Focal length: 35mm
  • ISO: 3200
  • Shutter speed: 1/30s
