Determined Roper

It’s rodeo weekend in Dripping Springs and this afternoon was the ranch rodeo competition. This includes competitions intended to mimic real-life cowboy activities such as singling one steer out from the herd and getting it loaded into a trailer. Teams of cowboys from local ranches take part and it’s great to watch.

This shot was taken during the team roping contest in which four cowboys have to lasso one particular steer from a herd of a dozen or so then immobilise it by tying three of its legs.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.3
  • Camera: NIKON D810
  • Focal length: 200mm
  • ISO: 6400
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s

Thanks for identifying the rider, Kim! I hate it when I post pictures of people but don’t have names to attach. If Luke wants a copy of the picture, please ask him to drop me an email.
