Male Ghost Crab, Fiji




Walking down the beach yesterday morning, Drew spotted this ghost crab (Ocypode ceratophthalma) scuttling around so we spent some time taking his portrait before he dashed off down one of the many crab holes scattered around. There are many species of crab living here and their population is enormous. The larger land crabs we’ve seen only come out at night but the beach is alive with smaller ghost crabs, fiddler crabs and hermit crabs all day.
