Team Roping, Wimberley Rodeo

Team ropers in action during this year’s 4th of July weekend rodeo in Wimberley, Texas. I’m constantly amazed at the skill of the cowboys participating in team roping. Two of them chase the steer on horseback and the aim is to have one cowboy rope the animal “normally” around the head and the other one rope its hind legs. While I can see how head roping is possible, I have no idea how anyone could catch a running steer by the hind legs while galloping on a horse!

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/4.8
  • Camera: NIKON D500
  • Focal length: 102mm
  • ISO: 800
  • Shutter speed: 1/30s
