I’ll get back to Dripping Springs Rodeo tomorrow but I had to interrupt the series with this picture, taken at about 5:30am this morning after we abandoned our Cub Scout camp. A huge storm, the size of which the meteorologists vastly underestimated, hit our Cub Scout campsite in the middle of the night and required us to get the heck out of there as quickly as possible due to the danger of flash flooding. The site was safe, being 20 feet or more above the nearby river but, with 2 inches of water covering the area and two more hours of solid rain forecast, we grabbed our packs and headed uphill to the parking lot, leaving our tents and sleeping bags behind.
There’s been pretty widespread flooding in the area. It took us an hour and a half to get back home (20 miles) and we had to retrace our tracks four times when we hit flooded low water crossings before finally finding a route that was open.
Our rain gauge shows 7 inches since yesterday evening and there’s more rain forecast. That’s the third 7+ inch storm we’ve had in the last 4 weeks!
You know I am a fan of all your work, but holy cow, this might be one of the most powerful images I have seen from you. This one just screams at me on so many different levels that I can’t stop just sitting and staring at it. VERY well done my friend.

Thanks, Scott – praise from you is praise indeed! Although I asked my son to stand for this shot, it feels authentic to me and captures exactly the mood we were all feeling having had to wade our way out of the flooded camp site 5 minutes earlier. This will definitely be in my top 10 collection for this year.
