The first time I visited the Pound House, probably a decade ago now, I remember being very impressed by the fact that the house had a cistern built into the wall of the kitchen with access from a bucket and pulley right there. Inside, there’s a small set of steps to allow you to get farther out of the window to operate the contraption easily. Clever folks those 19th century pioneers.
