Bareback Rider, Blanco County Rodeo

Given that I have UK family in town, a rodeo visit was an absolute must. Luckily, last weekend was the Blanco County Fair and Rodeo in Johnson City so we attended the show and introduced our guests to the joys of cowboy sports. It was a really great show but, from a photography standpoint, rather difficult since it was an outdoor event under very poor floodlighting. Regardless, I got a few good shots and had an opportunity to test out some of the silly ISO settings that the D500 offers.

Here’s one of the bareback bronco riders doing his best to hang on for 8 seconds.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: NIKON D500
  • Focal length: 180mm
  • ISO: 7200
  • Shutter speed: 1/640s
