Fordyce and Quapaw Bathhouses

We took the long way up to Kansas last week, avoiding the usual 11 hours on Interstate 35 and, instead, opting for a leisurely 4 day stroll through Arkansas with visits to a couple of historic towns along the way.

Our first stop was in Hot Springs, were the historic Bathhouse Row and surrounding springs are now a national park. The bathhouses and surrounding amenities were a famed playground for celebrities, sportsmen and gangsters back in the 1920s. While bathhouse row is still beautiful, the area around it now has a feeling of faded opulence with many derelict or demolished buildings including several very large hotels. Despite this, it does appear that may be light on the horizon since some redevelopment and renovation is ongoing and the national park area still buzzes with visitors.

For the technically inclined...
