And now, as they say on Monty Python, for something completely different.
A couple of weeks ago on a stir-crazy, lockdown Sunday afternoon, I decided to check off another item from my “possibly cool indoor abstract opportunities” list and started playing with oil and water macros. This is one of the resulting images.
The technique here involved a 9″x13″ Pyrex lasagna dish with an inch of water in the bottom, suspended over an iPad using a book on either end. Into the water, I added a good squirt of washing-up liquid then a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil. The camera was set up on a tripod looking directly down on the surface of the liquid and the iPad was set to display various colorful patterns. I photographed the result and here’s what I ended up with.
