Too Close For Comfort

A bull bucks in the chute as its rider gets ready at Dripping Springs Rodeo on May 28th, 2022.

I was using a 7mm ultra-wide lens to try to get some dramatic angles and, although I had seen bulls buck before, I had never seen one jump quite this high while still in the chute. It turns out I was rather too close since he walloped me on the arm leaving me black and blue from the elbow to the wrist. At least I was actually firing the shutter as this was going on – I got 3 frames, the first two of which are recognizable and the third is a blurred mess as the bull shoved me several feet back from where I had been standing.
