Eroded Ridges

Here’s another take on Factory Butte near Hanksville, Utah from our 2022 NxNW expedition. This image was taken during the same flight as the one I posted a couple of days ago but, crucially, several minutes later after the sun had fully set. The softer light removed the high contrast lines along the ridge tops and provided a good starting point for a monochrome treatment that really brings out the intricate, fractal detail of the erosion field around the butte.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: FC3411
  • Exposure bias: -1.3EV
  • Focal length: 8.38mm
  • ISO: 100
  • Shutter speed: 1/250s
