Rusty Grytviken

We had a tremendous day today with two landings at very different locations on South Georgia. Rather than posting another nature picture, as I would have to do if I chose something from our morning visit to Fortuna Bay, here’s an image from this afternoon when we landed at the island’s main “town” of Grytviken, home to a British Antarctic Survey base, a small and fascinating museum, the remains of an early 20th century whaling station, and the grave of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. The whaling station is preserved as a historic landmark today and is now home to a decent population of fur seals, elephant seals and penguins.

For the technically inclined...
