King Penguins at St. Andrews Bay

Staying with penguins, here’s another image from my favourite location of our December expedition. This was taken at St. Andrews Bay on South Georgia, home to the world’s largest colony of King Penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus). These birds are outside the main colony keeping cool by standing in the meltwater streams from Heaney Glacier as they undergo their annual mount.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/6.7
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 12mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1/350s
