Hondius at Cape Tuxen

While we’ve been away (attending my son’s graduation in Atlanta), the M.V. Hondius story has played out to a point where, assuming things went as planned today, all passengers and all but a skeleton crew have been taken off the ship and transported to their own, or an intermediary, country for medical screening and quarantine. My heart goes out to those who lost loved ones to hantavirus caught on the ship, to those still suffering from the disease, and to all the other people who may have been exposed and are now waiting through the excruciatingly long 6-8 week incubation period in the hope that they do not develop symptoms.

Here’s another image of the ship during happier times. This was taken at Cape Tuxen on the Antarctic Peninsula on December 31st, 2024.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/5.6
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Exposure bias: +1EV
  • Focal length: 329mm
  • ISO: 400
  • Shutter speed: 1/1500s
