Austin Skyline, 2021

I’m heading back home today with this shot which I took last night while meeting Phil Warner for a bit of downtown drone photography from Butler Park and Auditorium Shores. Austin’s skyline is changing fast with buildings that used to form the recognisable mainstays (where’s the Frost Bank Tower?) now hidden behind even taller skyscrapers. As for seeing the Capitol, you now need to be a couple of hundred feet up and looking from a very specific position to catch a glimpse of it from Auditorium Shores.

In this image, you can see the Seaholm development and Independent condos on the left of the frame. The huge new block under construction in the centre is destined to become Google’s new Austin home.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/2.8
  • Camera: FC2103
  • Focal length: 4.5mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1.6s
