I had an exciting time yesterday when I visited San Marcos Regional Airport and the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force to take a ride on “FiFi”, one of only 2 Boeing B-29 Superfortresses still airworthy. Along with B-24 Liberator “Diamond Lil”, “FiFi” had travelled from her home base in Fort Worth as part of the 2021 Air Power History Tour.
This shot shows FiFi returning to the CAF hanger after one of her flights. The wing in the foreground is from C-47 “That’s All Brother” which is based at San Marcos and was also taking passengers for flights. I ended up with very few good front-on images of the visiting aircraft on the ground because they were parked with the low, morning sun directly behind them.
I’ll be posting some of my favorites from the visit this week but, if you’re impatient to see further images, I’ve uploaded all the keepers to a SmugMug gallery at https://davewilson.smugmug.com/Events/AirPower-History-Tour-2021/.
