Zagreb at Night

A busy, downtown street in Zagreb, Croatia where the city comes alive at about 9pm in summer nights. This image was taken at about 11:30pm. During most of the day, we found the city very quiet but the evenings and into the night really saw the crowds emerge to eat and drink at the many restaurants and bars in the downtown area.

This photo is also testament to how well the in-body image stabilization works on the Olympus OM-1. A handheld exposure with the lens zoomed in quite a distance (equivalent to 160mm in 35mm terms) and a shutter speed of 1.5 seconds still yields a sharp result, at least for the portions of the frame that weren’t moving (of course).

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: OM-1
  • Focal length: 80mm
  • ISO: 200
  • Shutter speed: 1.5s
