Thunder Hole, Acadia National Park

This picture represents day 5 in my 5 Day Black and White challenge from James Howe. As required, I have to pass the challenge on to someone else so I nominate my good friend Jim Nix. Jim’s work on Nomadic Pursuits is widely known and typically characterised by vivid colour so I’m keen to see how he handles something a bit different! Jim, you are challenged to post 5 consecutive monochrome images then pass the challenge on to another photographer.

Getting back to my post for today, this is another shot taken on a very productive morning at Thunder Hole during our Acadia National Park trip. The light was gorgeous that morning (I’ll post the colour version of this one later so that you have a chance to agree or disagree) and the rock textures were really fantastic. Look carefully in the distance and you’ll see the cruise ship which appeared in this image a few days ago. In case you’re interested, all I did between these two shots was change lens and rotate the tripod head.

For the technically inclined...

  • Aperture: ƒ/8
  • Camera: NIKON D700
  • Focal length: 28mm
  • ISO: 800
  • Shutter speed: 1.5s
